Home archives: WCG Canada 2003

Well I was planning on posting all the games and telling the story behind it all, but as it turns out I forgot my floppy drive doesn’t work anymore so I’ll have to get someone to email me the games after I put them on their computer, sorry about that.

Anyways the long and the short of it is this I played set…. sorry but when you are spending a lot of money to go to a tournament with only 2 prizes you really have to play to win, and at the moment not playing with set is too much of a handicap IMO. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as I hadn’t perfected my set play as well as either Chris or Champ who are the canadian champions (in that order). If I were to say that I’m not greatly disapointed to not be going to Korea I would be lying to you and to myself, unfortunately I made a few too many mistakes and didn’t know my civ well enough to compete at the level needed to win. When I do manage to get the games uploaded I’ll do a full posting on them right here (will just edit it), for now you’ll just have to make due with a few pictures that I took. Unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures with all 5 of the competitors at the event together, but I did get a picture of everyone once.

To see the images in their full form just right click and then click on view image, I didn’t bother linking it for you sorry.

Home archives: Hope you’re not too disapointed…

But you’ll have to wait until the end of next week before I post any new games. The canadian WCG finals are next weekend in toronto and I don’t want to give away everything that I do as I’m already at a disadvantage with all the recordings available of me. So look back here october 1st at the latest for plenty of new games.

Poseidon: 2v2, Myself and VnI_Salska(Thor) vs. Geek(Loki) and Godasu(Ra) on Nomad

I don’t really go land fast enough in this one and it hurts for a little while, but salska owns too much for us to lose because of it.

Zeus: 2v2, Myself and MAD_Montezuma(Poseidon) vs. MAD_Nero(Ra) and MAD_Miyamoto(Loki) on Watering Hole

Go zeus go!!! Myrmiddon are just too awsome to pass up. I let my econ slip a little bit, and a few strategic errors probably cost me a bit, but it ain’t tough to play zeus in mythic.

Poseidon: 1v1 vs. Hope_Is_Gloppy as Thor on Midgard

It’s a good thing that water isn’t too important on this one :D, I could have fought harder on water I suppose, but gold was going to be more important in this one I thought.

Home archives: All my games from last week….

Since I haven’t even had time to play at all this week and don’t think that I’ll have time to do a proper job of posting most of my games until at least thursday (if that) I decided to just upload all my games into 3 sets of zips, here they are…. Set 1, Set 2, Set 3

Sorry for the clunky way of posting them but I figured you’d rather have the games than have to wait a week for me to write up a crappy description of each one. Next week things should be back to normal so no worries :D.

Home archives: Sorry for the lack of posts….

I’ve been rather busy lately, I’m busy for the rest of today probably but if I get a few spare minutes I will post some recorded games and let you know. Otherwise I will definitely try to post a bunch of games tommorow after work.

As some of you might know there has been someone else posting on this site under my name. I discovered who the person was and had a private chat with them. As their intentions weren’t malicious in any way I decided not to ban them or anything else at this time. However let this be a warning to all of you, if you post on MY site using MY name you can expect that I will take actions to either ban you from the site, or if I choose not to do that I may simply ban you from making posts on my site. Even if it is only meant to be a joke you have to realize that a lot of people from countries outside of america also visit this site. For a lot of those people english isn’t their native toungue, so they may not understand that it is a joke and could very well take everything you say seriously.

Thanks, KS_Josey_Wales.

Premium Subscription: A brief example

You can find the Recorded Game Here

Here’s just a brief example from the very first game review I performed for my november premium service, this is just over 1 page out of 7 for writen for this particular game.

Again after he retreats I run my army away from the gold mine, silly move right? Not this time. This time I saw his villagers running down towards my tc and had a bit of a suspicion that he was going to try and sneak one of my tcs out from under me. I checked at this point and sure enough he still had cease fire so there was nothing I could do to stop him from stealing the tc if he wanted to, but I could certainly force him into using his cease fire on something that I knew I could recover from due to the tcs location (behind my base away from all his military buildings).

After having lost one of my secondary tcs I decide that I had better take frost, I feel that frost will give me the best chance to take back that tc because I can attack it and if I get in trouble elsewhere with his whole army I can always frost it to buy me enough time to take out the tc and get my own up.

18:50 I decide I had better disrupt his economy a bit more, this causes him to withdraw enough of his army that I can start spamming hill forts. I don’t actually end up doing much in the way of raiding, but I do manage to distract a decent amount of his army for long enough to get my hill fort up which will be what ultimately helps me to get back my third tc. Basically this is my chance, I have some buildings in between his army and his tc, my hope is that this will buy me enough time to take down his tc, and as a last ditch resort I always have frost to save myself if he overwhelms me too quickly. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results, I lost minimal troops, minimal troops, managed to take out his tc very quickly, and didn’t have to use my frost GP on him.

22:00 he uses bronze on his army while trying to get up a fortress, this is a pretty obvious place for me to use frost on his army, we have roughly the same size of armies but his is better (with bronze/better upgrades) as well if he manages to get that fortress up I can kiss the whole north section of the map good-bye because he will easily control it all with the fortress, ranged siege and his superior army.

Now normally I’m one to try and get a few fortress’ up around a guy after I’ve frosted his army however in this case I felt I would be much better off just trying to kill as many units as I could due to the fact he would still have 30 seconds of bronze left on them after my frost ran out and that is easily enough time to do a lot of damage with a bronzed army.

After the frost runs out I know I have to keep pushing to take back as much ground as I can, I’m still having gold problems (good map control on his part), and really need to take over the centre of the map again. It also doesn’t hurt that I have a mostly RC army and he has a mostly toxote army which means an easy victory for me.

24:30 at this point I decide that my best bet is just to secure the centre gold mine with hill forts and try to raid his gold mines like crazy. I can’t afford to just sit back and boom because his economy is likely a lot better than mine by this point, as well I can’t afford to go all out offensive because my economy isn’t big enough to support that for very long. I check the north gold mines first as I know he’s had villagers up there working not too long ago, but I find nothing. After that I check another one south of the middle and find he isn’t on that one. Finally I check the most obvious one which is right by his second tc. Fortunately for me that mine had run out already which left only one choice, and sure enough he was all over that gold mine.

Once I started raiding that gold mine I knew he had to go to one of the other two available to him, sure enough I found him on the south middle gold mine with a bunch of villagers almost right away. One thing I always have troubles with is keeping track of where my ravens are after I get new ones, fortunately I found one to put on the southern most gold pile to keep watch, this left him only two spots to mine gold without me knowing about it and really gave me an advantage.
